Study Abroad

I Have Returned (but only for 4 more weeks)!!!

So I know its been a long time since I have made a post and I apologize for that. My neglect for my blog is due to that fact the MOST MARVELOUS/HECTIC/STRESSFUL weeks of my life.

From Semana Santa trips with my friend Nicole to Germany and Switzerland and with my mom to France, I have many fond memories and awesome experiences. I saw so many places that I can hardly remember them now. Going from all that to coming back to Toledo  and becoming readjusted to living here was a bit difficult especially because I had a nice pile of classwork/presentations to welcome me back. With all of that said, it has been nice to be in a place that has been more familiar to me. Although I have been here for about 4 months, I still don’t feel that I can call Toledo home. I have become more familiar with the Spanish language and Spanish culture but that doesn’t mean that I feel completely comfortable with either. I still find it nerve-racking to speak with native Spanish speakers in Spanish and there are still things about Spanish culture that annoy me. As I come closer and closer to the end of my trip, I am realizing that going through the whole transformative experience of studying abroad actually takes a little bit a work; it just doesn’t happen to you (in my opinion). You have to be willing to open yourself up to doing new things, accepting certain situations, and being able to adapt; all of which can be very difficult. I know that I have changed from when I first arrived to Spain but only in the way that I am more aware of myself. I know what I like and don’t like, what I can and can’t handle, and what I want and don’t want. I think that a person can only truly get a sense of these things if they are put in a situation completely different from anything they have experienced before and studying abroad is one of the many opportunities to do just that. Whatever I may feel about Spain or my time here and however much I might complain, I am still incredibly grateful that I got to take advantage of this opportunity.

As of today, I only have 24 more days left until I go home and one last trip to London planned. I will keep you posted up until the end, May 28th.  Until next time 🙂
